History

The Republican Club was launched by Lawrence B. Sheppard. In principle, it served as a gathering place on the second floor of the Old Bon Ton building on the square. It was located at 10 and 12 Carlisle Street, or above what is currently the pet shop. The original liquor license (pictured below) was purchased on October 30, 1935. Through socials and feeds, Republicans met to bond, connect, and develop relationships with each other. Members enjoyed activities such as bowling, pool, and poker. Many years later property was purchased and the facility was moved to its current location at 255 West Chestnut Street in 1968.
